Ich vs spines vs bubbles?

I've noticed some little white spots on one of our Ceylons' dorsal side, on one of his black stripes. I'm not really sure what it is, I only noticed them yesterday. I'm pretty sure they're not bubbles since they're still in the same place as they are yesterday. So that really only leaves Ich or spines, as far as I know. Are spines always in a regular pattern? These spots are quite irregularly spaced, but seem to be fairly symmetrical (if you drew an imaginary line from head to tail and divided the fish into left and right, the spots are symmetrical that way). I haven't seen any spots anywhere else on his body, or anywhere on the other puff, so I'm not really sure what's going on.

Any ideas?

Edit: if it was Ich, would it be better to go hypo or hyper salinity? Right now they're at around 1.012s.g.

Sounds like spines to me, though a picture would help tremendously. The spines are not necessarily regular. Anyway, keep an eye on them.

For now, keep an eye on the spots. At 1.012 you could probably go either way, as a sharp change in salinity in either direction would probably kill the parasite.

Cool, we'll keep an eye out on it. I'll try to get a pic, but I don't have my DSLR on hand, so probably nothing useful will come from the attempt.
