 Spotted Boxfish

SCIENTIFIC NAME(S):  

 Ostracion cubicus


FAMILY:  

 Ostraciidae

ORIGIN:  

 Indo-Pacific Region

CAPTIVE LIFESPAN:  

 Unknown, perhaps 5+ years


DIFFICULTY LEVEL:  

 The Spotted boxfish can be kept by the average aquarist

REEF SAFE:  

 May or may not go after corals/inverts. It is therefore wise to test them out on a inexpensive piec of coral/invert.

ADULT SIZE:  

 20 Inches


TANK SIZE:  

 135 Gallons

DIET REQUIREMENTS:  

 Mysis Shrimp, Small fish, Cuttlefish, Squid, Octopus, Shrimp, Snails, Inverts, Frozen Peas, Boiled Lettuce.


GENERAL INFORMATION:  

 The spotted boxfish can release their poisonous and sometimes deadly ostracitoxin when stressed, therefore they must no be kept with boisterous or aggressive tankmates. Spotted boxfish should be kept in tanks with live rock as it helps with water quality and provides places for them to forage.
